    Why should I choose RS485 over wireless solutions like LoRa or Zigbee?
    RS485 is recommended for environments with high electromagnetic interference (like factories) or physical barriers (like tunnels) where wireless signals might be blocked or unstable. It provides the most reliable, "hard-wired" communication link for critical lighting safety.

     

    Do I need to install extra data cables for the RS485 solution?
    Yes. Unlike our PLC (Power Line Communication) solution, the RS485 system requires a dedicated twisted-pair data cable (typically 2-core shielded wire) connecting the controllers. This ensures dedicated bandwidth and signal integrity separate from the power line.

     

    What is the maximum distance supported by the RS485 system?
    The system supports a transmission distance of up to 3 kilometers in typical city scenarios. For longer distances or complex layouts, we use the BS-RS803 Signal Controller to repeat and boost the signal, extending the reach effectively without data loss.

     

    Can the system measure energy consumption?
    Yes. The BS-RS812R Single Lamp Controller has built-in power metering capabilities. It can remotely read and report voltage, current, power factor, and accumulated energy consumption to the SCCS (Smart City Control System), allowing for precise energy audits.
