Smart Lighting with 4G solution in Malaysia

In early 2022, we successfully deployed a strategic smart lighting solution in Malaysia, utilizing customized 2G/4G connectivity to meet specific client demands. Unlike traditional solar lighting, our smart system offers seamless IoT integration, allowing for centralized remote control, precise GPS positioning, and real-time brightness adjustment. These features are critical for modern Smart City infrastructure, significantly improving energy efficiency and management ease.

FAQs about 4G/LTE Smart Lighting Solution

How does the Gebosun 4G street light controller communicate without a gateway?
The Gebosun 4G controller (like model BS-816LTE) has a built-in SIM card slot or eSIM module. It connects directly to local cellular towers (just like a mobile phone) using 4G, LTE-FDD, LTE-TDD, or NB-IoT networks. This allows for direct communication with the server, removing the need for intermediate gateways or concentrators.

What are the advantages of 4G/LTE solution over Zigbee or LoRa?
The main advantage is simplicity and coverage. Zigbee and LoRa require setting up gateways and planning mesh networks. The 4G solution uses existing telecom infrastructure, meaning you can install a smart controller on a single light anywhere in the city, and it will work immediately. It allows for unlimited distance and higher data transmission speeds for real-time monitoring.

Does the system support automatic dimming based on time?
Yes. The controllers feature a built-in RTC (Real-Time Clock) that supports local scheduled tasks. You can set dimming profiles (e.g., 100% brightness at 7 PM, 50% at midnight) via the SCCS Platform, and the controller will execute them automatically, even if the network connection is temporarily lost.

Is the BS-816M controller compatible with Philips drivers?
Yes, the BS-816M with Zhaga interface is specially optimized for Philips Xitanium SR LED drivers and other DALI 2.0 certified drivers. It ensures seamless plug-and-play compatibility, allowing for advanced data reading directly from the driver.

What is the data usage for each controller per month?
The data usage is very efficient. Typically, a single controller consumes between 10MB to 30MB of data per month, depending on the frequency of status reporting (e.g., every 15 minutes vs. every hour). This keeps operational costs low with standard IoT SIM cards.
